Witnessing
Witnessing to others can
be one of the most rewarding things that a person can do for the
Lord. There are several ways of witnessing to people, and I
think one of the best ways to witness is with the use of tracts.
What are tracts? Tracts
are pamphlets or small booklets that use Bible verses and
sometimes a story to tell or show people about the love God
has for his creation. They also show the forgiveness of sins God
has provided by giving us His Son Jesus Christ. My personal
favorite for tracts are small comic book tracts published by
Chick Tract.
You will find some Christians that seem to think that a comic
book tract is not appropriate for witnessing to an adult, but I
guarantee that they have never watched an adult intensely
reading the message given in one of these small booklets.
Chick Tract's website is http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.asp.
I remember one time
going out for coffee with a Christian friend, and as we were
sitting there, I placed a tract in between the napkins in the
napkin dispenser on our table. My friend watched me and then
said to me "Why do you bother doing that? You could be
using that money to help feed children, or support missions. You
are just wasting your money on those things." This same
Christian friend later made a special trip to see me,
and with a smile on his face he said, "Remember what I
said to you when you put that tract in the napkin
thing? Well forget it, you just keep giving out those tracts."
A bit surprised at his statement, I asked him why the change of
heart?
"Well he said, I had been talking to a friend of
mine about Christ for several weeks who was not saved. He just
would not accept what I was telling him. This friend stopped by
yesterday, and he was so excited. He told me that he finally
understood what I was trying to tell him, and that he had asked
Jesus to come into his heart. So I asked him, what happened? He
told me about how he had gone to lunch at this restaurant in
town, and found this booklet that fell out of the napkin
dispenser as he was pulling out a napkin. He said he started
reading the booklet, and it just all clicked, it all made
sense." At this point my Christian friend said to me
again, "So you keep putting those things out."
This was the first time
I had ever been shown by the Lord how He had been using the
tracts that my family and I had been giving out. It is a great
feeling knowing that the Lord has let you be a instrument that
helped someone find eternal life through Jesus Christ. It is one
of those "Praise the Lord" moments. Giving out tracts is not a
hard thing to do. You can put them anywhere--in phone booths, on
park benches, even in bathrooms. Leave one sitting on the seat
of the bus before you get off at your stop. I like putting one
with my tip before leaving a restaurant.
For several years my son
and I would dress up as clowns and go to a nursing home in town
on Halloween night. We would make balloon animals for the kids
(and the parents), and then slip a tract or two along with some
candy in the kids bags. Another way we found we could pass out
tracts was by volunteering our time at an open house or a grand
opening of a Christian business. We would volunteer as long as
we were allowed to pass out tracts to the people entering the
event. One time we went on a weekend missions trip into the
inner city where we again dressed up as clowns, had a grill out
in a local park where we fed hundreds of people, made balloon
animals, did some face painting, and passed out tons of tracts
that told people about Jesus Christ.
The
ways you can give them out, and the places you can leave them
for people to find is unlimited. Want to give it a try? Ask us
for a pack of tracts, and we will give you your chance to spread
the Word of God. Just send us an email at
